John Ries
May 26, 2021 marks the end of one era and the beginning of another at Mahoney as John Ries, the most tenured employee at Mahoney, has retired. I am honored to have had John as my mentor and colleague for over 30 years. I will miss John both personally and professionally, but I am excited for him as he begins his new retirement life. I also know he is leaving Mahoney in great hands with an incredibly talented group of professionals to continue advancing the firm into the future.
John began his career in the public accounting profession in 1978 and joined Mahoney in 1990 where he headed up the Housing Tax Credit team, now called the Real Estate Solutions Team. John was also the managing partner from 2006 to 2014. Through John’s leadership, hard work and determination, Mahoney developed a national real estate practice despite being a local CPA firm. He has been a leader, mentor, teacher and an advisor to so many in the affordable housing industry. He will be missed.
Throughout John’s years at Mahoney, he has mentored and developed the Real Estate Solutions Team (REST) which consists of eight dedicated professionals and continues to grow. The REST has over 75 years of experience dealing directly with the real estate industry. The team will continue to meet John’s high standards to provide excellent service to our clients and assist the real estate industry with the training and knowledge we have learned over the years.
As the new leader of REST, I would like to introduce to you to our team:
“The greatest legacy a person can leave is having developed other leaders. Achievement comes to people who do great things for themselves. Success comes to people who lead others to do great things for them. However, a legacy is created only when leaders put their people in a position to do great things without them.”
– John Maxwell
John Ries has left an incredible team as his legacy and I hope that one day I will be able to do the same.
Congratulations, John on your incredible career in the affordable housing industry and your retirement.
– Donna Stevermer
